If you are looking for a particular type of service, but do not know which organisations provide that service, do a Subject Search.
If, for example, you are looking for organisations that provide meals on wheels services, type "meals on wheels" into the subject box, or if you are looking for community health centres, type "Community Health" into the subject box.
Subject searches can be used to identify organisations that specialise in particular fields or areas of activity. Subject searches on "arthritis" or "falls" will locate organisations that provide information or services related to these topics.
A Subject search scans the lists of "controlled vocabulary" terms that have been used to subject index records. You can Browse the list of Subjects in the database and paste terms into the Subject search box. The Browse List button will open a new window, with subjects that can be scanned through and pasted into the search page Subject box. When a subject or subjects have been added to the search page, click on the Search button to run the search.
The way that information is entered at the search screen is important. Please have a look at the examples and hints below, and the notes on how to search effectively in the Search Basics section.
