Adult and Lifelong Learning Promotional Bodies

Non-government organisation which acts as the peak body for adult and community education providers and others interested in adult learning.

The Council on the Ageing (COTA) is the peak consumer organisation dedicated to protecting and promoting the well being of older people.
One of its roles includes the promotion of Lifelong Learning.
Initiatives of Council on the Ageing (Tas) Inc. include TALENT or the Third Age Learning Network of Tasmania, and the Peer Education Network.

Adult and Community Education (ACE) is within the Department of Education, Tasmania. It provides post-compulsory educational opportunities for adults in the Tasmanian community, and publishes the Adult Learning Tasmania Directory on its website.



Continuing Education

The University of the Third Age is a co-operative learning community, run by volunteers on a non-profit basis.

School for Seniors provides an opportunity for people to share learning experiences, skills and social activities in a convivial, non-threatening atmosphere.


TAFE Tasmania is part of the national TAFE network and provides vocational education and training.

Hear a Book Service is a non - profit organisation based in Hobart serving people with Print Disabilities throughout Australia and New Zealand.
There are over 10,600 books on the catalogue which have been recorded by volunteers in their own homes and distributed through Public Libraries in Australia and New Zealand.



On-line Learning Centres / Support Groups

U3A Online has been developed to allow U3As to share ideas, resources and information through the Internet and to encourage older people to harness its seemingly unlimited educational potential.



Neighbourhood Houses

Neighbourhood Houses are not for profit; managed by the local community; and operate with a philosophy of empowering and supporting local communities. They provide drop-in centres that offer a range of services for people, including learning and recreation activities.
